Apparently Ft. Drum is going to reopen the tank trails for off road vehicles so there will be more info to come as I get it but they would range from a rating of 1-3 to 8-10 so there will be a bit for everybody

This is also for anyone else who is interested.
Can someone on Ft Drum get their hands on the Fort Drum Recreational Use Map, scan it and email it to me? It is supposed to be available at the Natural Resources Permit Office. I'm an hour away, so it is hard for me to go get one myself. Thanks.
Also, here is a an interesting link to the regulations for the recreational land on Ft. Drum

I was at range control and MWR offices yesterday and they said the "Offroading on the range area" is not going to be possible due to force protection issues. If you have a Rec Pass and are caught more than two tire widths off the authorized tank trails you will be ticketed. I know the ticket thing is true because I got one last year during hunting season.

Don't say "can't" unless you broke something trying.

just to further squash the tank trail rumor, I got excited and called the office of Fish and Wildlife management. Not the PM (program manager) but the #2 dude who's name I forgot seconds after he said "not a chance". Apparently they are looking at opening more areas for ATV access for hunting and fishing asside from the area south of 3A but no decision was made yet. They also have new regs for recreation comming out at the end of august (tentavely). They are interested in assisting with the wounded warrior program (or were when they thought i was discussing ATV access) and are working to set asside specific areas for wounded warrior hunting and fishing access but not really for recreation. I gave them our club website and my contact information as well as Eric's name so they can contact us if something changes after I leave for Iraq. I proposed Ft. Drum sponsorship of TeamXtreme and co-management of any area set asside for full time off road use and also proposed looking at an area where off-road use would have minimum impact on varied terrain that we may be able start our own local annual weekend even / membership drive on the R-5201 lands. I ask that any military club members help by keeping contact with land management and proposing sponsored use. Remember if you contact on behalf of the club to maintain the utmost respect and professionalism. I will start a new thread under land use issues where we can share and keep track of our contacts and what progress if any is made. We all know the ARMY and Ft. Drum is slow to change but if we responisbly begin exposing the office of land management to our interest in this issue we might actually gain access within the next few years.
